Atop a bluff overlooking the legendary Wabash River, Market Street in Mt. Carmel, Illinois is truly the center of our community. Celebrating its 200th Anniversary (along with the State of Illinois) in 2018, the city has begun making significant strides forward over the last few years, including several new businesses and upgraded building facades within the city's core. Market Street is home to City Hall, the United States Post Office, Senior Center, the County Courthouse, Wabash County Museum, Uptown Amphitheater, multiple financial institutions, fraternal and veterans meeting locations, Little League facilities and churches, along with dozens of professional offices and retail locations. It also hosts a half dozen events every year, each drawing thousands of local residents and regional visitors. Together, this works to make Market Street our hub of activity. Concerted efforts are being made in the areas of business creation and retention, beautification, walkability, residential density, amenities and more. We are currently raising funds, and are about one-third of the way toward our goal, to build a fully functional 700 square foot performance stage with permanent movie screen in our Uptown Amphitheater. This new venue will greatly enhance our resident's outdoor entertainment experience many, many times each year. For our organization, funds obtained by successfully participating in the America's Main Streets Contest would be effectively doubled, tripled or more by being matched with other potential donors and grants, first toward the stage completion, then a specific beautification project being developed now, and finally for future upgrades that will serve to make Market Street a place that each of our residents will be proud of. Your vote can and will make a difference, and we thank you!
