Ripon (population of 7,810) is a beautiful small college town in central Wisconsin. Since the inception of the Ripon Main Street program in 1988, we have experienced unprecedented reinvestment in the downtown district, restoration of numerous properties, refilling of vacant storefronts, ongoing consulting support for entrepreneurs, and the establishment of multiple events and marketing programs. Today, the downtown offers an eclectic mix of architecture, shops and dining in one convenient place. In one short stroll, you'll find kitschy boutiques, fine jewelry, furniture and funky vintage shops, and amazing dining options. Popular mainstay events such as the Summer Concert Series and Christmas in the Village, as well as newer events like WineWalks and Scooping the Loop, have brought a continuous stream of visitors to the heart of our community for shopping, entertainment, and culture. All these efforts are sparking new interest and creating economic vitality in downtown Ripon. Ripon's revitalization effort has attracted regional and national attention, success that has even been acknowledged by Budget Travel Magazine which recognized Ripon as one of the "Coolest Small Towns in America." Although much remains to be done, we are confident that with the continued commitment and enthusiasm from our partners in the revitalization process, Historic Downtown Ripon will continue to grow as a magnet for shoppers and tourists, and the envy of other communities. Our determination to persevere is what makes Ripon the ideal America's Main Street candidate. Receiving a $25,000 grant would greatly enhance our current streetscape beautification effort. Ripon welcomes the opportunity to work with Independent We Stand and the STIHL Inc. to take our remarkable success story to the next level.
