Our Main Street Altus is a Historic District with buildings built before Oklahoma Statehood in 1907. We work diligently to restore and reinvigorate the heart of our hometown on a daily basis. As is the case with all Main Street communities our only problem is funding the many projects that we would like to embark upon. Our greatest percentage of funding has been our events which over the past year were unable to have due to the pandemic. We are beginning to get things open and running as close to normal as possible again fortunately, but would welcome any support to help overcome our challenges of the past. We have begun a new landscape project in the district to replace plantings from over 25 years ago with new drought and heat tolerant plantings to do as much to help the environment as well and also, to survive our very hot summers in Southwest Oklahoma. The resident businesses and property owners take a lot of pride in their businesses and buildings in the area which encourages us to do everything within our power to keep things maintained as well as possible. We have a clean up program where we encourage the citizens to take part in and this helps gives everyone pride in their hometown! This grant would be so beneficial to help us complete our current beautification program which encourages not only the Downtown but entire town to clean up, restore and reinvigorate as well. Our mission is to make Atus the place to be!
