About 10 years ago, I worked on a project where we renovated 50 percent of the downtown Attica buildings. It was beautiful. We have three blocks of amazing architecture that is already listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Unfortunately, this year, the Indiana Landmarks group placed our entire downtown on the most endangered list. It's not that we haven't tried. Just last month, we entered the #hgtv hometown makeover contest. But, small towns are hit hard, and our biggest employer, a local steel factory went through major layoffs and has had to rebuild their entire company. Our downtown needs to do the same thing. We need money to save buildings. We have a former Chinese restaurant, for example, that was purchased by a local cook who wants to cater and do carry out lunches but his building needs a total renovation. We have a historic hotel with aim impressive history that lost its back wall in a windstorm and needs major repair. We have a building that was burnt by an arsonists years ago and the current owner never did enough to save it. We have good working family businesses, an ATT store, a downtown bank, 2 successful downtown restaurants and an arcade. We are worth saving. Help us save our buildings and get us off the most endangered list.
