Oxford, Michigan's "main street" is a thriving few blocks of retail stores, restaurants, a movie theater, a park, and professional services. While it is historic and quaint, it is also a Michigan state highway. Oxford's heritage is tied to the gravel industry, and it continues to be a big area for aggregate, so we have an unusual amount of truck traffic through our downtown core. The Michigan Department of Transportation is about to come through for a major road reconstruction project the likes of which we probably won't see again for 100 years. It will be a major "main street" disruption, so the Downtown Development Authority and Oxford Village management are working hard to help main street businesses not just survive the road reconstruction, but thrive. The $25,000 prize will go a long way to help all of our main street businesses stay on our customers' radar during the project.
