Established in the 1870s on the banks of the Minnesota River, Downtown Shakopee has a rich history in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Once coined "Little Chicago" during the Prohibition era, our downtown has established deep roots to the City of Shakopee. Home to a few of Shakopee's longest running businesses and the historic railroad that rolls through town, Downtown Shakopee has always been the center of community engagement. Along with this prosperous history, Downtown Shakopee is looking to gain continued momentum in the years ahead. Launching this summer is "Rhythm on the Rails" - a free, five-week music concert series that will take place ever Wednesday night in the heart of Downtown Shakopee. The City also recently invested 1.5 million dollars towards downtown revitalization efforts set to transpire by the end of 2017. With these key initiatives for the year ahead and the future growth of business taking place, Downtown Shakopee is ready to become America's Main Street.
